The amount of information about the benefits of L-arginine is substantial.  Here is a synopsis for our purposes.

 

L-arginine is an amino semi-essential amino acid that plays a crucial role in various physiological processes in the human body.    It serves as a precursor for the synthesis of nitric oxide (NO) which is a molecule with numerous functions.

 

Nitric Oxide Synthesis:  L-arginine is converted into Nitric Oxide through the action of an enzyme called nitric oxide synthase (NOS).  This conversion occurs in the endothelial cells lining the inner walls of blood vessels.  Nitric oxide acts as a signaling molecule that causes the smooth muscle fibers in the blood vessels to relax, resulting in a process called vasodilation (widening of the blood vessels).  This process helps improve blood flow and circulation throughout the body, especially to the lower extremities which is most often where Peripheral Neuropathy starts due to a lack of oxygenated blood flow to the peripheral nerves.  This is the scientific information for which three PhDs from the United States won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1998.  They emphasized that L-arginine could help prevent heart disease.

 

By promoting vasodilation, L-arginine and the resultant production of nitric oxide can help lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), and improve cardiovascular health.  The L-arginine product used in Neuro4 is also combined with 3 grams of L-citrulline which converts into L-arginine in the bloodstream.  Therefore, we are doubling the production of NO and helping STOP an underlying cause of Peripheral Neuropathy.

 

L-arginine has also been widely studied for its potential benefits in exercise performance.  Improved blood flow and oxygen delivery to the muscles can help enhance exercise capacity, reduce fatigue, and aid in muscle recovery.  In addition, L-arginine plays an important role in immune function, wound healing and the reversal of erectile dysfunction.

 

The only medical contraindication to L-arginine is when an individual is taking Nitroglycerin for acute angina (chest pain).  If they are, L-arginine can cause an unsafe drop in blood pressure just like the same contraindication for Viagra, Cialis and Levitra.  Interestingly enough, if the patient takes the L-arginine, they won’t need their Nitroglycerin any longer.
